ES: Here's tonight's episode. LOL! Gotta admit that this one is in this spot for the same reason as the previous one. Prue and Phoebe feel like Early S1, not Late S1.
CARINA: I can't wait.
CARINA: I like this change that Piper is busy with a big Quake event. Since Holly doesn't have surgery, you guys having it earlier, you don't need to do that.
ES: That's the absolutely best part of doing virtual series like these - you don't have to let what happened in Real Life affect what you do with the episode.
CARINA: I love it already, especially Prue coming along with Phoebe. I also love it, because I just hated Kern's writing with some of his lines he gave Phoebe, and she didn't do her checklist and went off.
ES: And, of course, that's why the episode is placed here. I think we put all of Kern's episodes in the first half of the season because we did not like how he wrote the relationship between Prue and Phoebe. Since Phoebe was based on Connie Burge, I'll be the way Kern wrote her must've driven Connie nuts!
-----------
CARINA: Also a difference here, Darryl doesn't know, of course, this is earlier, but love that Peyton is with him.
ES: We didn't like all of the cop spotlight being on Andy (or in our case Darryl) when we wanted it on Darryl (or in our case, Peyton), too.
CARINA: And, I always love when Phoebe researches. It's my favorite thing she does in the earlier seasons.
ES: All part of why we left Leo out in these early episodes - we hated him always going to the Elders and getting the answers. After watching 'The Women of Charmed', Brian Krause didn't like that role either.
CARINA: I love this part, and Phoebe teasing him, but Darryl changes the subject.
ES: Hehehehe! All part of the fun of making this before Darryl/Andy knew.
CARINA: I remember how freaky that scene was with his death.
ES: Oh, man, was it ever!
--------------
CARINA: Yes, Prue don't believe that jerk. I love that he got upgraded to pure bad guy.
ES: And I love that you love us doing that!
CARINA: I also love them doing their own research at the same time as the Halliwells.
ES: Yup. We hated them being the dumb cops before they found out the truth about the sisters.
CARINA: I like this so much. What a time for them to fight and get that call, and run to see Piper with her broken leg.
ES: Hehehehe! We SO cracked up when Sasha came up with that idea! And it kept that horrible discussion between Prue and Phoebe to a minimum.
-------------
CARINA: And a sweet sisterly moment.
ES: Our favorite thing to do! It's going to be a lot harder when we get into S3 when the relationship between Phoebe and Cole was more important than the relationship between the sisters, and the episodes hardly ever began with the sisters or end with the sisters, but you better believe that we'll do our best to change that! Cole will NEVER overshadow the sisters the way he did in Canon Charmed, nor (we hope) will our "viewers" ever cheer for him rather than a Charmed One! AND, of course, our Phoebs will NEVER become PhoeME who puts her lover in front of her sisters' safety. Naturally this all means that 'Sleuthing with the Enemy' won't be part of our series. It *might* be part of Saturday's, but you know their Pheebs (spelled that way for our Deadline writer) will never become PhoeME.
CARINA: I love this friendship scene with Sheila and Piper, so sweet.
ES: It was SUCH fun letting them have a recurring female guest star who could be their friend, besides (along with Peyton taking Darryl's place) letting our series be more female-centric.
CARINA: I love Phoebe saving Prue, but it made sense given where it is placed.
ES: Yup, it couldn't be Darryl who saves her because he doesn't know the secret yet, and we loved making it more sisterly this way.
------------
CARINA: I love that line, if the ghost is toast.
ES: Hehehehehe, our favorite, too. Not sure if I've told you guys, but after re-watching each episode, before discussing how we want to write it as CCDOW, we each both grade the episode and come up with our 3 favorite moments from the episode. "Is the ghost toast?" made all of our lists.
CARINA: I'm so glad he got what's coming to him. I'd love to see his face, when he is caught, priceless.
ES: Hehehehehe! Wouldn't that have been fun??
CARINA: Great sisterly ending.
ES: So far we've only had two episodes where we didn't end with a sisterly ending and they're all S2 episodes. Those are 'Chick Flick' and 'Apocalypse Not'. We couldn't top those! During our re-read we'll be looking for an episode where it's Prue and not the other two (although possibly someone else, just not Piper or Phoebe), so each sister will have one of her own.
CARINA: I can't wait.

Prue (Shannen Doherty) and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) decide to take a tour around Alcatraz anyway and soon are part of a tour group. They have no idea that in one of the cells, the Soul Collector (guest star Brenda Bakke) has promised to give the ghost of murderer Jackson Ward (guest star Jeff Kober) revenge on the ones who convicted him if he helps her collect souls of witches. When a different tour group enters and the guide enters Ward's cell, the guide collapses. Ward enters his body and uses his ticket to ride off the island.
Later, as the tour guide's body is zipped up in a body bag, Darryl (Dorian Gregory) and Peyton (Jocelyn Seagrave) question Prue and Phoebe.

When they return to the Manor, Phoebe wants to research what they saw, but Prue has an important meeting at Buckland Museum that she can’t miss. She leaves Phoebe to do the research on her own, but first warns her not to bother Piper.
At Buckland Museum, right in the middle of the meeting, Phoebe calls Prue to tell her what she's found out about the "Ghost of Alcatraz". According to her research, some ghosts need a dead body to transport them across water, so now Phoebe fears that Ward might be at large on the mainland.

Meanwhile Darryl and Peyton check the weapon that was used in a murder. They find a fingerprint on the weapon that matches Jackson Ward, but he was executed 36 years earlier.
Darryl goes to the Manor, and questions Phoebe, who dodges the answers. Phoebe teases him, wondering if he believes in ghosts. Darryl pales a little, then just changes the subject and asks her to call him if she finds more information, then leaves.

Meanwhile, Ward spooks Judge Renault (guest star Jack Donner), who presided over his trial. He picks up objects on the judge's desk, scaring the judge, before he chokes him before stabbing him to death.
Meanwhile, Prue suspects Roger (recurring guest star Matthew Ashford) of embezzling from the Museum. But when she walks into his office, Roger quickly hides the evidence and tries to convince her that she didn’t see what she thought she saw. Prue doesn’t believe him and tells Darryl, who begins investigating Roger.

Back at the Manor, Phoebe argues with Prue about the excess work she does around the house. Phoebe thinks that Prue is angry with her for not having a job. Even as they argue the phone rings - Piper at a hospital. Prue and Phoebe rush to the hospital to see a cast on Piper’s leg. They discover that thanks to a clumsy employee during the big event at Quake, Piper broke her leg, and now she’ll have to stay overnight in the hospital for observation. She asks if everything is okay between the two of them. They both go silent, give each other looks, then quickly kiss Piper, hope she feels better soon, and then hurry out as Piper tries to figure out what just happened.

Her sisters figure out how to vanquish Ward’s ghost. It will be dangerous and they wish Piper was with them, but they know they have to do it. First they go to the Ward mausoleum to cast a luring spell. They quickly leave and Ward finds a burn on his chest.
Back in the hospital, Piper can't stop thinking about her sisters, and calls home. When no one answers, she calls Sheila. Sheila admits that Darryl told her that Piper’s sisters have been acting differently without her. She adds that if Piper ever wants to talk about anything, both Darryl and Sheila have an open ear.

Back at the Manor, Prue prepares a killer cocktail. The person who drinks it will die but can come back to life if they’re revived by CPR within four minutes. They try to decide who should be the one to drink it, while Prue admits that she really does take Phoebe for granted while Phoebe admitted that she didn’t work and does want to find a job. They flip a coin and Prue wins. Phoebe thinks she actually lost, and Prue says that would be true only if Phoebe doesn’t revive her.
Even as they talk, Ward walks through a wall. Prue drinks the potion and her spirit leaves her body even as he knocks Phoebe unconscious. Prue says the spell which vanquishes Ward, but Phoebe is still unconscious and can’t revive her. Just as Prue’s spirit begins to leave this world, Phoebe comes to and is able to revive Prue. She hugs her big sister, still terrified that she almost lost her. Prue hugs her back, thanking her for bringing her back. Then Phoebe asks if the ghost is toast and they both crack up.

The next day, Prue and Phoebe bring Piper home from the hospital. Even as they make her comfortable on the couch, Piper wants to know if they were at each other's throats. Both of her sisters deny it. Phoebe shrugs. "No, just the same old boring stuff,” and she and Prue exchange smirks while Piper wonders.
