Saw this at the Cafe and simply HAD to share!
*sigh* If only Kern had left in the middle of S4 and Nell took over for him! We might have seen Shannen come back or at least let her image be shown! If ONLY our last views of Charmed would've first been the picture of Piper, Paige and Phoebe on he couch and then the iconic picture with a bit of magic to add a young Paige to Prue, Piper and Phoebe! With that, I wouldn't hate 'Forever Piper', I mean 'Forever Crap', I mean 'Forever Charmed' as much as I do.

Saw this on the Charmed Reddit and had to share. Bolding mine."Looks Good on Paper" - an excerpt on Charmed from Nell Scovell's book "Just the Funny Parts"
Nell Scovell's biography.
For those of you who don't know she wrote on shows like The Simpsons, Murphy Brown, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and for David Letterman. She also was an Co-Executive Producer on Chamed in season 3 and 4. Back in 2017 when the allegations against Kern surfaced she was quite open about the rampant sexism that went on.
Here is a little excerpt from Just the Funny Parts, "Looks Good on Paper (2001) When the hit WB show Charmed, created by Constance Burge, hired me as a Co-Executive Producer, it seemed like a perfect match. I wanted to transition from writing half hours to hours and was well-versed in witchiness. The Charmed room was filled with gifted writers and had a fifty-fifty gender split. “This is too good to be true,” I thought. And it was. The cracks showed early. The on-camera message of the “magical power of sisterhood” did not extend offscreen. By the time I joined the staff, all the Charmed Executive Producers were male. Out of 178 episodes, only eight were directed by women and series star Shannen Doherty was the only woman to direct more than once....."
She goes on to discuss how by season 4 there was talk of Kern leaving and she was approached about taking on the Showrunner position. She knew this would make her a threat to Kern and she did not want to talk about the possibilities until Kern made a decision.
Kern goes on to ask her to co-write an episode that would air during sweeps week. It sounds like this was Black as Cole as this is the only episode they both co-wrote and it aired during sweeps week in November. She wrote the teaser, Act 1 and Act 2. He wrote the last acts. When she came in for the table read he mentioned that she had to make some changes. Changes are marked by asterisks. Her half of the script was full with asterisks without any real changes only punctuation and word choice changes. Meanwhile his was clear. She felt humiliated and after this Kern did not give her another episode to write for the rest of the season despite being a Co-EP. Eventually she left despite enjoying the other writers and even the actors.
It's heartbreaking but she perfectly sums up Charmed and how awesome it seemed and all it had going for it.
