I’ve been experimenting with character interviews, so I thought I would share one I did which involves a character that will be introduced in this story.
SG: Hi, I’ve been trying to learn how to interview characters and I thought it would be fun to interview you since you are new to Charmed: Heritage. Why don’t we start with you telling everyone what your name is and how you are connected to the current story?
Tig: *Chuckle* Well, my name is Thomas Gardner, but most people call me Tig. My twin brother, Heart, used to date this girl called Ladybug and from what I’ve recently learned that’s kind a big deal in relation to your story. Heart never did explain why they broke up, but Ladybug is kind of like the little sister I never had, so I hope they manage to patch things up.
SG: Glad you like her. Have you ever met her sisters or her parents?
Tig: Actually, I haven’t and I don’t think Heart has either. They live on the West Coast and we definitely don’t. Come to think of it, I’m not really sure how Heart met Ladybug. School maybe, but she transferred out after they broke up. *Snort* And so did he for that matter. Cambridge. Seriously?
SG: Ladybug is going to college?! Why did I not know this?
Tig: You didn’t? Are you sure you’re the writer here?
SG: *Defensively* Yes! Ladybug just doesn’t show up a lot. I’ve been really getting to know her this episode. You still haven’t said how you are connected to the current story.
Tig: Oh. I’m sick. *coughs for effect*
SG: So you aren’t magical?
Tig: What?
SG: Nothing. What stage as of the sixth of May?
Tig: Four.
SG: And what’s that like?
Tig: What do you think? It’s painful. I feel like my insides are burning up and not just in a fever sort of way. It’s worse somehow, like I’m literally cooking from the inside out.
SG: Sounds bad. Sorry about that.
Tig: Make it better and we’ll call it even.
SG: Sorry I can’t do that, but there is a plan in the works that might work.
Tig: *Alarmed* Might? What if it doesn’t?
SG: Then, there is another plan, but you’ll not survive that one.
Tig: *Silence*
SG: Tig?
Tig: *More silence*
SG: Tom?
Tig: I don’t like that plan.
SG: Sorry. Sometimes I only introduce characters when it’s time for them to die.
Tig: No, you don’t.
SG: Well, I’m working on that. Maybe you’re the one.
Tig: Boy, thanks. I’ll pass.
SG: We’ll see. In the meantime, let’s talk about you. Is there a girl in your life?
Tig: Not since high school. Medical school doesn’t give you much time for a social life.
SG: Medical school, huh? What made you decide that?
Tig: A lot of little things, I guess, but the big thing was probably when Jared almost died of Leukemia in middle school.
SG: Jared.
Tig: My best friend. That’s really how we became friends. I was forever at the nurse’s station at school, because this one bully liked to mistake me for my brother and I do mean liked to. He’d get mad at my brother and come looking for me, because he knew there was no better way to hurt Heart. Jared was there a lot when he was in school, because he was so sick that even when he was feeling well enough to attend school he still felt sick enough that he had to leave early a lot of days.
SG: I bet. My dad had cancer and even though he usually didn’t talk about it, you knew. The way walked or the way he didn’t walk because it hurt too much. *Sigh* I’m glad your friend made it. My dad didn’t.
Tig: *Silence*
SG: Change subject?
Tig: Yes, please.
SG: So . . . girls. No one since high school, but how about during?
Tig: Can we go back to the subject of cancer?
SG: No. Talk.
Tig: *Scowl*
SG: Talk.
Tig: *Sigh* My brother says I’m a serial dater. I dated six girls in two years of school, two junior year and four senior. Nothing serious. I needed my grades to get into a good school, so I really couldn’t get serious.
SG: And Heart? Did he date?
Tig: No one more than once, but he went on a few dates. I know he went on a few double dates with Sasha and whomever she happened to be dating at the time, mostly to convince them he wasn’t in Sasha that way.
SG: Sasha?
Tig: Former foster sister and one of Heart’s closest friends. Trust me when I say she’s exactly like a sister to him.
SG: I thought you never had a little sister.
Tig: Did I say Sasha was younger? She’s almost a year older than we are and she makes sure we don’t forget it.
SG: So you still see her?
Tig: Well, yeah. She’s our sister. Just because our parents didn’t adopt her, that doesn’t change.
SG: Okay. Okay. I didn’t know. I think it’s probably time to call this interview to an end
Tig: Don’t want to talk to me anymore?
SG: No, actually, I’d love to, but I want to share this and it’s late, so why don’t we set up to do another interview another day. If they like this, maybe I’ll share the next one with them. For now, I’m asking anyone reading this: who do you want me to interview next? I need at least two votes for the same character, so let me know.
