Chapter Five - What's Going On?
“I’ll be right back with those bottles, Piper,” an unfamiliar voice called from the other side of the door.
Not sure what was going on, Paige looked around for a place to hide. Seeing nothing, she was about to orb out when the door pushed open and a dark haired woman stepped in. She saw Paige almost instantly and raised an eyebrow. “Did you need something, Paige?”
Paige looked at her, silent, trying to figure out who she was. With sudden clarity, the woman’s identity came to her, a woman she had only seen in photographs and a few times from a distance at P3. “Prue?”
“Look, I know you are a friend of the family, but this area is for employees only,” Prue continued.
Friend of the family? Paige could only stare. What on earth is going on?
“Phoebe and Cole aren’t even here,” Prue informed her, “so I’m not sure why you are here.”
“What do you mean Phoebe isn’t here?” Paige asked, finding her tongue again. She was here just a minute ago. Looking around she remembered who else was there, not just in P3, but in the room with her. “And where’s Piper?”
“Out front,” Prue informed her. “What does that have to do with why you are back here?”
“More than you know,” Paige mumbled.
“What was that?” Prue looked at her suspiciously.
“Nothing,” Paige informed her. “Look, I don’t know what’s going on here, so I’ll just go.”
“You didn’t explain what you’re doing here,” Prue reminded her.
Paige nodded. “Like I said, I don’t know what’s going on. I’ll let you know when I find out.”
Prue frowned. “You don’t know how you got here.”
Paige shook her head. “Not exactly. It’s you. I don’t know how you got here.”
“Through the club,” Prue looked at her oddly. “Are you all right, Paige?”
Paige shook her head. “No, not really.” Paige stared at her for several seconds. “I don’t get it. Piper ran me in here to keep people from seeing me . . .” Paige looked up. “If you’re alive . . .” Paige held out her hand. She looked at a paper on the table and called out. “Paper.” Nothing happened.
Prue gave her a look. “What are you doing?”
“Testing a theory,” Paige informed her.
“And what exactly did you mean about me being alive?” Prue demanded, her eyes narrowing. “What do you know that I don’t?”
Paige shook head her head. “Look, no offense, but until I figure out what’s going I’m not sure I should say anything.” With that she orbed out.
Prue stared for a moment, stunned. In the year that she had known Paige, that was something she sure hadn’t known.
The door pushed opened behind her letting a very pregnant Piper in. “Prue, I thought you’d be right back. Is something the matter?”
Prue shook her head, staring at the place where Paige had orbed out from. “Call Phoebe. Something weird is up with her friend, Paige.”
